Shoreline Erosion Control
Shoreline Naturalization, a lake-friendly approach to controlling the effects of shoreline erosion.
Naturalizing shorelines plays an important role in preventing shoreline erosion. One approach is the use of natural, indigenous plants, such as dogwood and meadowsweet, whose roots extend a half-metre downward to the upper levels of the water table. Thus a good method of shoreline protection is established, which more effectively controls erosion than grasses and non-indigenous plants.
Shoreline naturalization, which combines bio-engineering, native plants and landscape design, provides an attractive and functional alternative to traditional shoreline construction. These techniques last longer and generally cost less.
